The Tyler’s True Story

The Tyler family of 3 lived in an old home in the Western Suburbs. They were expecting another child and outgrown their existing home. The Tyler’s chose to put their home on the market rather than go through a large-scale renovation project. The home had plenty of potential, so it wasn’t surprising that the first offer came in just 2 weeks. Delighted with the offer they accepted it.

The offer was conditional on a building inspection, which identified that the pergola and carport had been built without building permits. The buyer withdrew their offer to purchase, which forced the Tyler’s to apply for the buildings to be certified before the home could be put back on the market. For privacy, an alternate name and image is used to represent the family.

“Thank you for your prompt response. You’ve taken the stress away and it was much easier to resolve with your expert help.” Gary and Joan.

“It sure is more complicated than me just wanting to hit the walls out with a sledgehammer!”
“Thanks so much for your speed and efficiency on these drawings.”
“Thank you for your time and professionalism in dealing with our structural engineering needs.”

What to do

For your peace of mind at home. We’ve got the answer to address your unauthorised building work.

There are many circumstances that may have resulted in your home having an unauthorised structure or a retaining wall in need of repair.

You might have made some improvements to your home without knowing you need a Building Permit. The structure may have been there when you purchased your home. No matter what the circumstances you’ll need a structural engineer’s report.

Why it’s important to have your building works certified.

The Building Act seeks to keep you, your family and friends safe from harm. That’s why your local Council enforces heavy penalties for unauthorised building works.

If you’re unsure if a renovation or home improvement needs a building approval, here’s a list of things that do:

  • Swimming pools.
  • Pergolas and patios.
  • Retaining walls.
  • Alterations and extensions.
  • Sheds.

Book today by making an appointment with a Geohaus professional engineer, who will visit your home to inspect the building work or retaining wall. You’ll have peace of mind from knowing your building works is certified by an expert.
